Best Dental Lab Management Software (2026) Compared

Dental lab management software tracks every case from the moment a prescription or scan arrives until the finished work ships. It also handles due dates, technician tasks, invoices, statements, and the portal your dentists use to send cases. In 2026 the main options include Magic Touch, Labtrac, Seazona, LabStar, Labnext, DentaLab for QuickBooks, GreatLab and 3Shape’s Lab Management Software. Most are cloud-based, and most now connect directly to intraoral scanners.
This guide is for dental lab owners and managers. It compares the products that show up most often on the pages ranking for this topic, using only what each vendor publishes about its features, integrations and pricing. Most of those ranking pages are written by software vendors who rank their own product first. Codixology does not sell lab software.
Codixology built this guide from vendors’ published plans and documentation and from the pages that already rank for dental lab management software, not from any single vendor’s marketing.

What Dental Lab Management Software Does
Every product here covers some version of the same jobs. These are the features that separate them.
- Case tracking: A record for each case with the patient, the prescribing doctor, the products, enclosures, status and every production step. Barcodes or tablets let technicians update status at the bench.
- Doctor portal: A web page where your client dentists send prescriptions, upload scans, check status, and download invoices and statements. A good portal cuts phone calls.
- Invoicing and statements: Invoices per case, monthly statements per account, payment posting and aging balances. Some products do this themselves. Others sync with accounting software.
- Scheduling and due dates: Ship and due dates on every case, a board showing what is due today, and technician task assignment.
- CAD/CAM and scanner integration: Pulling orders and scan files straight from intraoral scanner platforms, and passing work to design and milling, so nobody re-types a prescription.
- Shipping: Label printing and tracking with carriers such as UPS and FedEx.
The Best Dental Lab Management Software in 2026
Magic Touch
Magic Touch describes itself as “dental lab management software that helps you cut rework, move cases faster, and build a more profitable lab.” It comes in three editions. Signature is the flagship for full-scale labs, available on desktop and cloud. Lite is a simplified platform for smaller labs with case entry, CRM, call logging and invoicing. Cloud is aimed at orthodontic labs and integrates with EasyRx. Review sites also list Magic Touch’s software as DLCPM (Dental Lab CPM).
The site lists case status tracking with audit trails, technician task scheduling, invoicing with integrated payments, and shipping management. Its integrations section shows 3Shape, iTero, Medit, Shining 3D and 3Disc, plus QuickBooks and several carriers. Pricing is monthly and based on lab size and features.
Best for: Labs of almost any size that want a product with an edition that fits.
Watch out for: The site shows integration logos but does not explain how each one works. Ask for a demo of the scanner you use most.
Labtrac
Labtrac calls itself “the dental manufacturing platform to scale your laboratory.” It says it tracks every case and step, and it advertises “full integration with the major intra-oral scanner systems,” creating orders automatically from scan data. Named partners include iTero, 3Shape, Medit, Dexis, Sirona and Shining3D. The pricing page lists order management, invoicing, reports, a doctor portal, an order due board, planning, scheduling, task tracking, lot tracking and accounting integrations.
Labtrac publishes its prices. As of October 2026 (check the current price), plans start at about $149/month for Starter (2 users, 10GB storage) and about $299/month for Team Essentials (up to 5 users, 1TB). Higher tiers run to about $899/month for Professional+ (up to 25 users), and Enterprise plans are priced separately. Prices exclude VAT and taxes. Labtrac estimates that 1TB holds about 80,000 STL files. There is a 30-day free trial.
Best for: Digital labs that receive most cases as scans and want them to arrive as orders automatically.
Watch out for: Storage limits. On the Starter plan, 10GB fills up fast with scan files, so price the plan your file volume needs.
Seazona
Seazona offers “one secure cloud platform” for case tracking, scheduling, online lab slips, barcoding, reporting and billing. Its Easy Billing tools send invoices and statements, take payments and track sales. The Client Portal lets doctors send cases and messages, upload files, and get shipping labels, invoices and statements. Scanner connections include iTero, Medit and DS Core.
Pricing is published and based on case volume. As of October 2026 (check the current price): Starter is about $89/month for 250 cases and 3 lab users. Professional is about $129/month for 500 cases and 12 lab users, and it adds the Doctor Portal, scanner integrations and mobile access. Premier is about $249/month for 1,200 cases and 24 lab users. All plans include unlimited doctors, 24/7 technical support and free online training, with no long-term commitment.
Best for: Small and mid-size labs that want predictable, case-based pricing and a doctor portal.
Watch out for: The Doctor Portal and scanner integrations start at Professional, so most labs will need that tier rather than Starter.
LabStar
LabStar markets itself as “Cloud-Based Dental Lab Software.” It runs on Mac or PC and on desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. The homepage says your data is “always backed up, secure and HIPAA compliant.” It promises paperless billing, faster service and better communication with dentists through its cloud platform.
The public homepage gives few feature details and no pricing, so plan to see a live demo before you compare it.
Best for: Labs that want a cloud system they can use from any device, including Macs.
Watch out for: Limited published detail. Ask specifically about the doctor portal, statements and scanner integrations.
Labnext
Labnext is a cloud-based dental lab management platform from Henry Schein One. The company says it has been trusted for over 20 years. It automates case management, scheduling, billing and reporting. It also lists UPS and FedEx shipping workflows, card processing and unlimited file storage for case documents. Labnext integrates with DDX and Dentrix, Henry Schein One’s case-communication service and practice management software.
Best for: Labs whose client dentists use Dentrix or send cases through DDX.
Watch out for: No scanner integrations are named on the homepage, and pricing is by package. Confirm how scan files reach the lab.
DentaLab for QuickBooks
DentaLab is “dental lab software built around QuickBooks,” from Mainstreet Systems. It offers “real-time two-way synchronization to QuickBooks Desktop and Online,” so invoices post to your books without re-entry. It schedules cases by due date, case type and technician availability, and its DentalRx portal lets doctors submit digital prescriptions and check case status. It works with iTero, 3Shape, Medit and exocad, and it supports UPS and FedEx shipping.
There is a 30-day free trial with no credit card required. The vendor says the trial is the full software, not a stripped-down demo. Pricing is by quote, with CAD/CAM integrations and automated accounts receivable sold as optional add-ons.
Best for: Labs that already run accounting in QuickBooks and do not want a second ledger.
Watch out for: Add-on modules affect the final price. Get the quote with the integrations you need included.
GreatLab
GreatLab describes itself as “dental lab software built to increase profits through Scanhub, LMS and CRM,” serving US and UK labs from the cloud. It connects to 3Shape, iTero, Medit, DS Core and Shining 3D, includes a built-in exocad treatment viewer, and lists more than 30 integrations. It also offers task and technician management with deadlines, a client portal with email and live chat, and two-way integration with billing software.
The homepage shows a “Start for free” button with “No credit card required” but does not spell out the trial terms or prices.
Best for: Labs that want quick digital booking-in from several scanner platforms.
Watch out for: Billing runs through integrations with billing software. Check how statements and payments are handled.
3Shape Lab Management Software
3Shape lists Lab Management Software alongside Dental System among its lab products. A reseller listing describes it as cloud-based, with case tracking for digital and analog work, barcodes, client records, automated invoicing, and integration with 3Shape Dental System. The 3Shape site does not describe its features in detail.
Best for: Labs whose design work already runs on 3Shape Dental System.
Watch out for: Fit outside the 3Shape ecosystem. Ask how it handles cases from other scanners.
Doctor Portals and Case Networks
The doctor portal is where lab software either saves you hours or creates them. Seazona, Labtrac, DentaLab (DentalRx) and GreatLab all describe some kind of client-facing portal. Check what a dentist can do in it: submit a prescription, upload files, see status, download invoices and statements, and print a shipping label.
Some dentists prefer to send cases through a network or their scanner’s own platform. DDX, from Henry Schein One, lets practices send digital prescriptions and files to labs and specialists, with real-time tracking. It integrates with Dentrix, axiUm and Epic. If many of your clients use a particular network or scanner, choose lab software that pulls those cases in automatically.
Dental Lab Billing Software: Invoices, Statements and Accounting
Lab billing differs from practice billing. You bill dentists, not patients and insurers, usually through monthly statements with aging balances. When you compare dental lab billing software and dental lab invoice software, check four things:
- Invoice per case with products, shade, enclosures, remakes and discounts.
- Statements on your billing cycle, with aging (30, 60, 90 days) and credit for remakes.
- Payments: card processing, portal payments and automatic posting.
- Accounting: whether the lab software is your ledger, or syncs with QuickBooks or another accounting system.
If your accountant lives in QuickBooks, DentaLab’s two-way sync or Magic Touch’s QuickBooks integration may matter more than any production feature. For general invoicing tools, see our guide to the best invoicing software.
Cloud-Based Dental Lab Software vs Desktop
Nearly every product here is cloud-based dental lab software, and Magic Touch Signature comes in both desktop and cloud versions. Cloud means no in-house server, access from home or a second location, and vendor-managed backups. The trade-offs are a monthly fee for as long as you use it, dependence on your internet connection, and storage limits that matter when you keep thousands of STL files.
Ask any cloud vendor where data is stored, how backups work, how long scan files are kept, and how you export everything if you leave. Some lab vendors, such as LabStar, advertise HIPAA-compliant hosting. Whether and how HIPAA applies to your lab depends on your situation, so ask a qualified advisor.
Is There Free Dental Lab Software?
Not really, for a working lab. What is free is time to evaluate:
- Labtrac: 30-day free trial.
- DentaLab for QuickBooks: 30-day free trial, full software, no credit card.
- LabAnnex (powered by Magic Touch): offered free for the first 90 days. Its page does not say what happens after that.
- GreatLab: “Start for free” with no credit card, terms not stated.
Use a trial on real cases from one or two client dentists, not sample data. For more on how trials differ from free plans, see Free Trial vs Freemium.
How to Choose Dental Lab Management Software
- Count your cases and users. Seazona prices by monthly cases and Labtrac by users and storage, so know both numbers.
- List your scanner sources. Note which scanners and networks your dentists send from, then confirm each one is a live integration, not just a logo.
- Test the doctor portal as a dentist would. Submit a case, upload a file, check status and download a statement.
- Walk through a remake. Make sure the remake links to the original case and that billing credits work.
- Decide where the ledger lives. Either the lab software or your accounting system is the source of truth. Pick one.
- Check scheduling. Look for a clear due-today board, technician assignment and rescheduling when a case is late.
- Price storage and add-ons. Scan file storage, integrations and payment processing can change the monthly cost.
- Confirm export. You should be able to take case history, accounts and files with you.

A Practical Example: A Six-Technician Lab Moving Off Spreadsheets
Consider a hypothetical crown-and-bridge lab with six technicians and about 400 cases a month from 60 dentists. Most cases arrive as scans from two scanner brands. Statements go out monthly from QuickBooks.
The owner shortlists three products. Seazona’s Professional plan (about $129/month in October 2026) covers 500 cases and 12 lab users and includes the doctor portal and scanner integrations. Labtrac’s Team Essentials (about $299/month) includes 1TB of storage for scan files, but this lab would need a higher tier for six users. DentaLab keeps QuickBooks as the ledger.
During trials, the owner sends one week of real cases from three friendly dentists through each portal and tracks how many phone calls each one prevents. The deciding factors turn out to be scanner intake and how statements reach dentists, not the monthly fee.
Common Mistakes When Choosing Dental Lab Management Software
- Trusting integration logos. Confirm each scanner integration on a live demo with your own files.
- Ignoring storage. Scan files add up, and small plans can run out of space quickly.
- Picking the cheapest tier without the portal. Some vendors put the doctor portal on a higher plan.
- Running two ledgers. Decide whether the lab software or the accounting system owns invoices.
- Trialing with sample data. Use real cases and real dentists.
- Forgetting remakes. Remake tracking and credits are where many labs lose money.
- Skipping the exit plan. Ask how you export cases, accounts and files before you sign.
