Dentally Software Review 2026: Pricing and Features

Dentally software is a cloud-based dental practice management system that runs in a web browser, so a practice needs no on-site server. It is part of Henry Schein One: Software of Excellence, a Henry Schein One subsidiary, bought Dentally in July 2020. Dentally sells in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and does not list the United States as a market.
For a UK practice, Dentally is one of the few dental systems that publishes prices, with three plans priced per site by number of surgeries (treatment rooms). Its strengths are browser access from any device, NHS and HSC claims integration, built-in online booking and AI-assisted clinical notes. Its weak points, based on public reviews, are clinical charting, data migration and support after purchase.
Codixology built this review from Dentally’s published plans, help articles and regional websites, plus the review sites and guides that already rank for “dentally software.” We have not used Dentally hands-on.

What Dentally Software Does
Dentally is a practice management system (PMS): the software that runs the appointment book, patient records, charting, treatment plans, billing, reminders and reports. Staff open it in a browser instead of using software installed on a practice server. Around the core system, Dentally sells Dentally Portal (patient self-service) and Dentally Vision (digital imaging), plus a partner marketplace of integrations.
Dentally launched in the UK in 2014 and became an approved supplier for NHS Scotland in 2018. Its “Moving to Dentally” page is built around practices switching from EXACT, the Software of Excellence system, which suggests Henry Schein One sees Dentally as the cloud path for EXACT users.
Key Features of Dentally Dental Software
Clinical tools
- Charting: a customizable chart with mixed dentition (permanent and baby teeth in one view) and root view.
- Perio exams: record and review periodontal exams with side-by-side comparisons over time.
- Templates: pre-built plans for recurring treatments and note templates.
- Clinical AI notes: a voice tool that turns dictation into structured notes. Dentally’s FAQ says it listens only when started manually, with sessions capped at five minutes. The UK pricing page says AI notes are not available in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.
Front desk and admin
- Reminders: automated SMS and email reminders for appointments, estimates and outstanding invoices.
- Short-notice filler: finds gaps in the next five working days and texts patients on a waiting list.
- Recalls and reporting: automated recalls plus real-time reports on practitioner activity, revenue, chair time, outstanding treatment and associate pay.
- Multi-site: one database across locations, with a site switcher and centralized reports.
Dentally Portal
Portal handles online booking, digital forms, medical history updates, payments and an in-practice check-in kiosk. A slot chosen online is held for up to 30 minutes until the booking is confirmed. On UK plans, Portal is included in Essentials and Pro, not Starter.
Imaging: Dentally Vision or the imaging bridge
Dentally Vision is Dentally’s own cloud imaging software, running on Windows and Mac desktops. Dentally Vision AI, powered by Second Opinion AI, highlights findings such as caries, calculus, bone levels and existing restorations; Dentally describes it as a radiology assistant, not a diagnostic tool.
The alternative is the Dentally Imaging Bridge, a Chrome extension that opens a patient’s file in third-party software with one click. Dentally’s help center lists about 40 supported programs (mostly imaging, plus a few probing and stock tools), including Carestream, Dexis, Sidexis 4 and XG, Romexis, Vixwin, EZDent-i, Dolphin Imaging and 3Shape Trios.
Claims, integrations and API
- UK: NHS integration in England, Wales and Scotland, and HSC in Northern Ireland, including claims, UDA tracking (units of dental activity, the NHS contract measure) and automatic NHS fee updates.
- Australia and New Zealand: health claim integration on all plans; the NZ page lists Ministry of Health claims.
- Canada: CDAnet electronic claiming and local Canadian support.
- Partners: the marketplace lists Working Feedback, Boxly, MPC, Chairsyde, Dentally Payments, Dojo and Worldpay, and Dentally runs a Developer Hub for its API (the connection point other software uses to exchange data).
Dentally Cloud: How It Runs Day to Day
Dentally runs in Google Chrome and, per its cloud page, works on Windows, Mac and iPad with no per-device licenses. There is nothing to install for the core system, updates arrive as small daily releases, and Dentally says data is backed up automatically several times a day.
If the internet drops, Dentally’s answer is a 3G or 4G hotspot or a backup router with a SIM card, since the software uses little data. No offline mode is described, so plan a backup connection. On security, Dentally lists encryption in transit and at rest, two-step login (a password plus a unique code), role-based permissions, approved IP locations and login time windows. Its FAQ says Dentally is GDPR compliant and provides data processing terms; ask for the documentation your compliance lead needs.
Dentally Pricing
Dentally publishes prices only on its UK site. Plans are priced per month, per site, by number of surgeries, with unlimited users. The UK pricing page shows these figures, excluding VAT, in October 2026:
| Surgeries per site | Starter | Essentials | Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | £134/month | £238/month | £346/month |
| 2 | £210/month | £324/month | £448/month |
| 3 | £285/month | £410/month | £551/month |
| 5 | £425/month | £567/month | £745/month |
| 8 | £618/month | £778/month | £1,021/month |
| 9 or more | Contact sales | Contact sales | Contact sales |
In short, Starter starts at about £134/month excluding VAT for a one-surgery site (October 2026, check the current price).
What each UK plan adds:
- Starter: unlimited users and storage, NHS integration, multi-site, internal chat, postcode lookup, approved-partner integrations, a limited AI notes trial and chat support.
- Essentials: adds Dentally Portal, 45 AI note transcriptions per surgery per month, a customer success manager and phone support.
- Pro: adds Dentally Vision, custom integrations, custom email domains, 90 AI note transcriptions per surgery per month and a dedicated customer success manager.
Dentally’s FAQ says Vision and Portal can be bought as add-ons on lower plans, but add-on prices, setup fees, migration fees and minimum terms are not published. The same FAQ still quotes lower example prices (Starter at £125/month), and directories such as TrustRadius still show old Basic, Standard and Advanced tiers, so budget from a written proposal. Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada pricing is by quote. See our dental software pricing guide for market context.
Dentally Reviews: What Third-Party Sites Show
What we read on review sites in October 2026:
- Capterra (updated October 21, 2026): 3.6 out of 5 from 18 reviews; ease of use 3.5, customer service 3.9, features 3.4, value 3.7.
- Capterra UK: the same 18 reviews; the most recent are from December, October and June 2025 (all 1 out of 5), March 2025 and November 2024 (both 5 out of 5).
- G2: 4.2 out of 5 from 16 reviews.
Reviewers praise cloud access, automated reminders, back-office reporting, frequent updates and, for some, a responsive team. Complaints include clunky charting, unreliable recalls, data migration problems, difficult price-code setup, a navigation-breaking update and slow or bot-driven support. One reviewer called HICAPS connectivity (an Australian health fund claiming system) “a bit hit and miss.”
With fewer than 20 reviews per site, treat ratings as a weak signal and use them to build demo questions. Our guide on how to spot fake software reviews explains how to weigh them.

Who Dentally Suits and Who Should Look Elsewhere
Dentally fits UK practices that want to retire the in-house server, especially mixed NHS and private practices that need NHS claims built in. It also suits growing groups that want one database across sites, new practices that want online booking from day one, and practices in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada that want local claims integration and are fine with quote-based pricing.
US practices should look elsewhere, because Dentally does not sell there; see our Dentrix vs Eaglesoft vs Open Dental comparison and best cloud-based dental software guide. So should practices with unreliable internet, practices that want an on-premise system, and clinics whose imaging software is not on the bridge list. Clinics in India may find our Dentee review more relevant.
Dentally Alternatives
Capterra UK’s alternatives list includes CareStack, Curve Dental, Dentrix, Open Dental, Eaglesoft and ABELDent, though most are built for North America. For a UK practice, the most direct comparison is EXACT from Software of Excellence, which sits under the same parent company. Our best dental practice management software roundup covers more options.
What to Check Before You Buy Dentally
- Get a written proposal covering price per site, surgery count, add-ons, setup and migration fees, and minimum term.
- Confirm imaging: check your software and version against the bridge list, or price Dentally Vision.
- Review the migration scope: which data moves (patients, appointments, treatment history, images, balances) and what does not.
- Use the sandbox for charting, recalls and price codes, the areas reviewers flag most.
- Test internet failover with a 4G hotspot or SIM router before go-live.
- Confirm support and claims: phone support on your plan, and NHS, HSC, HICAPS, MoH or CDAnet claiming for your setup.
A Practical Example: A Three-Surgery Mixed Practice
Consider a hypothetical three-surgery practice in Leeds with mixed NHS and private patients, two dentists, a hygienist and three reception staff. It runs an older server-based system and wants online booking and fewer missed appointments.
On Dentally’s published UK pricing, Starter for three surgeries is about £285/month excluding VAT, but it lacks Portal. Since online booking is the goal, the practice would compare Essentials at about £410/month against Starter plus a Portal add-on quote. Pro at about £551/month only makes sense if it also wants Dentally Vision instead of its current imaging software. Before signing, the manager would check the bridge list, run a week of charting and recalls in the sandbox and test a 4G hotspot.
Common Mistakes When Switching Dental Software
- Budgeting from old prices. Dentally’s FAQ and several directories show outdated figures.
- Choosing the cheapest plan, then adding features. Compare add-on costs with the next plan up.
- Skipping the imaging check. An unsupported imaging program can break clinical workflow on day one.
- No internet backup. A cloud system without one stops the front desk when broadband fails.
- Assuming all data migrates. Get the scope in writing and review it in the sandbox.

For a UK practice ready to retire its server, it belongs on the shortlist, as it does for practices in Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada that want local claims integration.
